For a remodel inside existing walls, expect a design visit, a plan that shows the new layout, and permits from the Whitman Building Department for the building, plumbing, and electrical work. Removing a wall may require structural review if it carries load.
An addition adds steps at the start: a plot plan, possibly from a surveyor, and a check against zoning, including the Floodplain and Watershed Protection District where it applies. Foundation work and framing come before any bathroom trades.
Once rough plumbing and wiring are in, each is inspected by the matching Whitman inspector before insulation and walls close. Tile, cabinetry, glass, and fixtures follow, and the final inspections come last.
